Tourism and
the growing retirement population have
greatly expanded their impact on the economy
of this area -- in both the number of jobs
created and state and local taxes
generated. Because of this, The
Coordinating and Development Corporation's
Division of Culture, Recreation and Tourism
works with communities throughout the
Ark-La-Tex to assist them in promoting their
existing cultural, recreational, tourism,
and retirement attractions. The Division
provides administration and coordination to
prepare the Region to meet the needs of
tourists and potential retirees, and markets
the area's attributes through various
promotional activities

Division of International Business works in
conjunction with CDC's Affiliate
organizations, the Ark-La-Tex Regional
Export & Technology Center, Inc. and the
Metro/Regional Business Incubator, to assist
businesses interested in international
trade. Services include: seminars and
workshops, documentation information,
counseling services, international financing
and taxation information, and referrals to
the U.S. Customs Services and the U.S.
Department of Commerce's U.S. Export
Assistance Center in New Orleans. Special
emphasis is placed on assisting Ark-La-Tex
companies open new markets worldwide for
their products and services.

The Division
of Project Review reviews applications for a
multitude of community and economic
development projects to assure compliance
with federal, state, and local regulations,
and to prevent duplication and ensure
coordination between interested parties.
The Division also informs affected local
officials of projects proposed for their
area, thus giving them an opportunity to
comment about a specific application if they
so desire.

Division of Technical Services is designed
to provide a multitude of technical
assistance services to bolster the economic
and community growth of Northwest
Louisiana. The Division's major emphasis
and direction is to provide professional
staff assistance to help local officials and
businesses evaluate potential projects and
their economic/community impact as well as
expert assistance in the preparation of
special reports, pamphlets, brochures, maps
and other promotional materials. The
Division’s services complement and
supplement the activities of other CDC
Divisions, Affiliates, Subsidiaries, and
Field Officers.

Division of Transportation serves as a vital
link to community efforts in the Ark-La-Tex
to improve the transportation network
available to area businesses and citizens.
On-going projects include: the expansion of
I-49 from I-20 in Shreveport to the Arkansas
border, the I-69 corridor through Southwest
Arkansas, Northwest Louisiana, and Northeast
Texas which would connect this region to
Canada and Mexico, 4-laning of major highway
arteries including LA Highway 1, and U.S.
Highway 171 to Lake Charles. Also, this
Division supports the development and
expansion of port facilities along the Red
River in order to provide the region's
businesses and industries with an additional
method of transporting their goods to
national and international markets.

The Division
assists communities and businesses
interested in developing the Region’s
timber, lignite, petroleum, and natural gas
resources. Services include assistance with
permitting, mapping, and environmental
review documentation such as environmental
statements and assessments, water/air
